Rob Wright: Bio

Rob Wright was born in Fayetteville North Carolina, November 6, 1958 (an army brat while father Bob was stationed at Fort Bragg 82nd Airborn Divison). Raised in Orange County, CA he began taking banjo lessons at age ten from Charlie Shortino at Manolios Music in Huntington Beach, CA. Rob's first band, at age sixteen, was American Ingenuity, a dixieland band compriesed of students and alumni from Huntington Beach High School.

While attending the University of Arizona, Rob was the original banjo player at the famous Gaslight Theatre in Tucson, AZ. He joined the New Christy Minstrels in 1980-1981 and travelled extensively throughout the United States.

Rob and Wife Linda later toured the Western U.S.A including Alaska and Hawaii, which officially made it all 50 states that Rob has performed in.

In 1994, no longer touring musicians, Rob and Linda moved to Tucson with five-year-old daughter Lacey (the main reason they stopped touring). They subsequently started the Rob Wright Dixieland Showband, which performed to sold out ausiences at Gus & Andy's Steak House for four years straight.

In 2002 Rob Joined The Original Wildcat Jass Band a world class traditional jazz band that he works with today. And although most of Rob's concert appearences are with the Wildcats, he often attends banjo conventions and enjoys performing occasionally with symphony orchestras. Rob had three banjo CDs as well as three traditional jazz CDs with the Wildcats.
